Clear Deleted Emails in Outlook 2003

October 12th, 2006 by Dawn Ahukanna

And you thought you had deleted those emails. I recently discovered this Outlook 2003 feature that deletes your emails for good.

As deleted items are counted towards any maximum size storage quota for your email account, it’s good practise to regularly purge your deleted items folder.

But these pesky emails are still hanging on by their finger nails. So you may also need to purge the recovery bin that holds the emails that have been removed from your deleted emails folder. The emails in the recovery bin can also be restored to the deleted items folder if you wish.

The solutions

1. Find emails in recovery

Highlight the ‘Deleted Items’ folder and select the following menu options: Tools, Recover Deleted Items.

2. Select all items

Select all items by choosing the first button on the left top corner of the window and then selecting the third button marked with a cross. The second button places the selected items back into the ‘Deleted items’ folder.

3. Confirm Action

Send your items to email heaven (or hell) by selecting the OK button.
