Are you guilty of the five deadly sins of technical writing?
Inspired by Amy Hoy's article - How Tech Writing Sucks: The Five Sins, I decided to put pen to paper, figurately of course. I loved this article. It's clear, amusing and sooooo relevant. I didn't think it was possible to use "suckitude" in a sentence but she nailed it.
Being one of the tech-writing sinners, I tried to identify why. Here's what I came up with.
Yahoo widgets to beautify your desktop
Need a sight for sore eyes or do you just want to remove the eyesore that is Windows?
I wrote previously about Emerge Desktop as a replacement to the default Windows desktop. I have come across another tool to beautify your desktop, The Yahoo! Widget Engine.
To quote Yahoo:
"The Yahoo! Widget Engine (formerly known as Konfabulator) is a JavaScript runtime engine for Windows and Mac OS X that lets you run little files called Widgets that can do pretty much whatever you want them to. Creating them is very easy too."
The Widgets are self-contained packages that provide cool looking functionality for your desktop. I had used Konfabulator previously and just tried the Yahoo! Widget Engine 3.1.4 on Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4.
