more airlines banned from European airspace

10 April, 2009 by Anni Poulsen

The European Commission’s Blacklist of Banned Airlines has been updated to include the following airlines:

  • Air Company Kokshetau, ATMA Airlines, Berkut Air, East Wing, Sayat Air and Starline KZ (Kazakhstan)
  • One Two Go Airlines (Thailand)
  • Motor Sich Airlines (Ukraine)
  • All airlines certified in the Republic of Benin.

The blacklist, which  lists all airlines that are currently banned from European airspace, was updated on 8 April 2009.

Antonio Tajani, Commission Vice-President in charge of transport, said: “The [European] Commission will continue to actively pursue a dialogue with everyone involved in aviation to ensure that all aircraft and air carriers conform to internationally required levels of air safety. Air passengers are entitled to feel safe and be safe when their plane takes off.”

While the airlines on the blacklist are banned from flying to and from EU countries, they are not necessarily banned in other countries. So if you’re in a country outside the EU, I’d strongly recommend you check the list before you buy an airline ticket.
