Sony World Photography Awards
If your travel budget this year stretches no further than a trip to the local ice cream van, then here’s your chance to win $5,000 or if you’re a professional photographer $25,000.

The Sony World Photography Awards opened for entries on 1 June and is open to all photographers, amateurs and professionals, from any part of the world.
The annual awards consists of two competitions, 1 for amateurs and 1 for professionals.
The amateurs competition accepts photos in the following categories:
- Architecture
- Conceptual & Constructed
- Documentary
- Fashion
- Landscape
- Music
- Natural History
- Portraiture
- Sport
- Campaign Award
The professionals competition accepts photos in 12 defined categories across the following three genres:
- Photojournalism & Documentary
- Commercial
- Fine Art
The winner of the amateurs award will win $5,000. The award for the professionals is set quite a bit higher at $25,000. While the higher award may tempt amateurs to try their luck in the professionals category, all entrants must be able to prove that they are indeed professionals.
Go to the Sony World Photography Awards web site for all the details on the competitions and their prizes, but as always remember to read the rules before you enter.
