Art Deco tea shop in Brighton

Dawn and I went to a wonderful tea shop in Brighton last weekend, that I wanted to recommend to you lovely people.

The owners of the metrodeco & mdtea describe it as an art deco furniture and 1930s tea salon and the place is just as funky as it sounds.

The metrodeco has a lovely, relaxing atmosphere created partly by the elegant furniture and the soft music in the background, but mainly by the incredibly friendly people who work there.

They have an amazing selection of teas, including one of my favourites, the Silver Needle, and they are quite happy to let you smell the teas before you place your order.

We had Egg Mayonnaise and Wiltshire Ham and English mustard sandwiches with Jasmine Dragon Pearls and Rockerfella Cleansing teas – all very good and served by the sweetest, friendliest guy you could meet!

The co-owner, Maggie Morgan, is also very friendly and knowledgeable about the teas they have. She let us smell some of the teas, and I ended up buying a pack of their Pink Pride, which is very good!

The metrodeco is just one of those places that must be experienced, and once you have, you’ll want to come back.

The metrodeco is located on 38 Upper St James St, Kemp Town, Brighton and you can read more about the metrodeco on their website.

This review is spot-on! I went to Metrodeco for the first time a few weeks ago and now go at least twice a week. The teas are amazing and all blended just for the shop and the coffee is better than at any coffee shop, including the Red Roaster, which is where I used to go. But, you’re right, Anni – it’s not just about the drinks and delicious homemade cakes and sandwhiches. It’s the poeple there and the atmosphere that make it a really special place. I’d urge anyone in the Kemp Town area to try it out. In fact, I’d advise anyone in Brighton or Hove to pay a visit.

We English like to moan. On the flipside, people are prone to exaggeration when they have a surprisingly good experience in the service industry. But I promise I’m not exaggerating when I say this is by a country mile the best tea shop I have ever been to. The treasure trove of antiques is interesting enough and a real find if you are looking for that special something to furnish your home. But even if you aren’t interested in art deco and just really fancy a great cup of tea in laid back surroundings, this is the best tea shop you will ever visit. I know I sound like I’m related to the owner but I promise you I’m not – this is the best tea shop I’ve ever been to. To go is to understand.
