Will 2010 spell the end of chargeable extras?

24 January, 2010 by Anni Poulsen

All through the winter Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has been running a marketing campaign focussed on their free provision of many of the services that most airlines now have made chargeable.

The “Always with SAS” campaign promises  no hidden fees, free check-in, free online seat reservation and a reasonable free baggage allowance, (source: flysas.com). All services that we took for granted as being free of charge, prior to the arrival of budget airlines.

It warms my heart to see an airline that dares to go against the no-frills trend, and while I’m not quite naive enough (despite the title) to think that this will spell the end of budget airlines, I hope that more airlines will follow suit. So there is a genuine choice for travellers, regardless of whether you’re an all-the-trimmings or a no-frills fan.
