Laugh of the day - Flymycase.com

I owe my biggest laugh of today to www.flymycase.com.

Flymycase.com offers to collect your luggage at an address of your choice and bring it to your travel destination. According to their web site they offer this service so that you will have:

• “No baggage reclaim
• no lost luggage
• no back-ache
• no worries”

Now I don’t suffer from a bad back and I have never lost any luggage, but I decided to check what it would cost to use them for my upcoming trip to Spain, even if I had no intention of hitting the “submit” button.

The initial stages of the booking process ran smoothly. I chose a return trip from London, UK to Madrid, Spain for my luggage.

When I got to the “select date” stage, I was rewarded with the first laugh. They have no service on Saturdays and Sundays! I will be travelling to Spain on a Saturday, so I had the choice of either having it arrive a day before me or two days after me.

Flymycase.com recommends having the luggage arrive a day before you arrive, but as it was not clear who would be looking after my luggage until I arrived, and I couldn’t imagine the hotel accepting any luggage prior to my arrival, I chose to have my luggage arrive two days after me.

This rewarded me with the second laugh. My luggage would be collected 3 days before I would actually travel myself! I like to be organised and prepared, but never have I had my suitcase packed 3 days before I travel.

My third laugh came close on the heels of the second one. I will also be leaving Spain on a Saturday, so this meant my suitcase would have to be collected a day before I leave Spain! But wait for it - it would not be delivered at my address until 5 days later, that is 4 days after I have arrived home myself.

I was given a brief second to compose myself as I was entering the number of luggage items I would have. I entered two suitcases for this by now rather hilarious booking.

Barely had I dried my eyes, before the biggest laugh of the day had me bending over my desk, tears dripping on to my keyboard, letting out snorts loud enough to scare off the bird that had been sitting outside my window.

Flymycase.com was going to charge me the total sum of GBP 277.30 for:

• Having me pack my suitcases three days before I travel,
• delivering my suitcases two stinking-hot days after I have arrived in Madrid,
• collecting my suitcases a whole day-without-toothbrush before I leave Spain,
• and delivering my suitcases 4 days after I arrive home myself.

I can purchase a London-Madrid plane ticket for each of my suitcases and give them each a seat right next to me for that kind of money. I’m still laughing!
