What is Tour de France doing in London?
2007 is only two weeks old, but I’m about to announce my “coming out” message of the year. Before you read any further, I should warn you that what you are about to read you may find of a disturbing nature.
‘You still here? Well, you were warned, here it comes – I’m a Tour de France fanatic! There I’ve said it, and I feel the burning of your “get a life” glare.
I should mention that by “fanatic”, I don’t mean a know-all-the-facts fanatic, more a love-lying-on-the-couch-seeing-all-those-fanatics-struggle-up-the-mountain fanatic.
Maybe I should also mention that by don’t-know-all-the-facts, I mean about-to-learn-all-the-facts. Because I’m going to my very first Tour de France Roadshow this Saturday – in Maidstone, Kent, England of all places. To any reader who is still hanging on, but not fortunate enough to be able to go to this event of a lifetime, I promise, I’ll post a couple of photos from the roadshow first thing Monday morning.
But the fun doesn’t stop there. The reason why I’m aiming to become a Tour de France know-it-all is because I’ll also be going to my very first Tour de France in July this year.
London will host the Prologue of the Tour de France 2007. Why Tour de France is opening in London, I have no idea. I just know that I’ll be there, at both the opening party on 6 July and the start of the Tour 2007 on 7 July.
If you also fancy going or just want to learn more about Tour de France, you can find more information about the roadshows and Le Grand Départ at tourdefrancelondon.com. You can also find information about the Tour de France in its entirety at Le Tour de France.
