North East Trade Expo in New Delhi, India

31 January, 2007 by Anni Poulsen

If you’re in New Delhi at the moment with time to kill, you might want to consider a free visit to the 4th North East Trade Expo.

But hurry, the exhibition only runs till 3 February according to The Ministry for the Development of the North-East Region, Government of India (pdf).

Under the theme “Experience the Flavours of Vibrant North East” the exhibition promises cultural performances, North East speciality cuisines as well as displays of handicrafts, handmade paper, jute products, fruits, travel, bamboo furniture, carpets, tea & spices, to name a few.

The exhibition caught my eye, because Arunachal Pradesh is one of the participating states. Ever since stumbling across the official Arunachal Tourism web site I have had this secret desire to go there.

The mountainous state, which borders Tibet, hit the headlines in November 2006 when China controversially claimed Arunachal Pradesh as Chinese territory.

While I’d love to visit the North East Trade Expo, if nothing else as an official protest to China’s land grabbing, logistics make it impossible for me to be there.

But if you’re in the area, you can catch the exhibition at: NSIC Exhibition Ground, Opp. Kalka Ji Mandir, Okhla Industrial Estate, New Delhi - 110020.

As I mentioned above entry is free, as is parking or you can catch the shuttle service from: Dilli Haat, Connaught Place Metro Station, University of Delhi, North Campus Metro Station.

If you go, please let me know, what you thought.
