Do men sleep with teddy bears?

15 March, 2007 by Anni Poulsen

20% of travelling men admitted to sleeping with a teddy bear when away from their partner according to a survey carried out by the UK hotel chain Travelodge.

Travelodge used the survey to ask 2000 men and women who were travelling alone about their sleeping habits. It revealed that more than 50% of the travellers felt lonely when sleeping away from home without their partner.

Methods to overcome the loneliness included hugging a pillow, spraying their pillow with their partner’s aftershave and cuddling a teddy bear.

I’m tempted to think that the respondents were having a laugh at Travelodge’s expense, but in response to the survey Travelodge has created the “Cuddillow”, a bespoke, extra-long pillow with two arms that guests can cuddle.

Wayne Munnelly, Travelodge Sleep Director said: “Our research identified staying away on your own can be lonely, stressful and it plays havoc with your sleep routine. In response to our findings we have developed the “Cuddillow” - It’s a substitute hug to help you to get a good night [sic] sleep.”

The Cuddillow will be available free of charge for all their guests on request from reception - question is, will their male guests be men enough to ask for it?

Note: Find the full results of the survey at the Travelodge website.
