India’s 150 Years of Freedom Struggle
India is celebrating 60 years of independence this year. On 15 August 1947 India broke free of British rule and was finally able to declare itself an independent nation.
In commemoration of the 60 years of independence as well as the 90 years of freedom struggle leading up to the now annually celebrated Independence Day, India’s Ministry of Tourism has put together the micro website 150 years of India ’s Freedom Movement.
The site features Freedom Movement milestones, quotes from key players as well as the “Freedom Circuit” - an introduction to places in India that played an important role on the road to India’s freedom. The Freedom Circuit not only explains the specific role a particular city or area played, but also suggests which sites a traveller should see when there and when best to visit the area.
The website is by no means a comprehensive guide to India’s Freedom Movement, but I think, it’s a good introduction, which I’d recommend to anyone who wants to learn about the movement, or even better anyone with plans to travel in India.
