Foreigners can now apply to volunteer at 2008 Beijing Olympics
Non-mainland Chinese and foreigners (i.e. not from China) can now finally apply to become a volunteer at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG) and the Beijing Olympic Games Volunteer Work Coordination Group announced yesterday that they now accept applications from would-be volunteers from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, overseas Chinese and foreigners.
You can apply by visiting the website most relevant to you on the following list:
- If you’re from Hong Kong: www.hab.gov.hk
- If you’re from Macao: www.sport.gov.mo
- If you’re from Taiwan: www.bjtx.org
- If you’re Chinese, but live abroad: www.bjqb.gov.cn
- If you’re a foreigner (non-Chinese): www.ebeijing.gov.cn
The registration form is very easy to fill in, and the above websites list all the requirements you must fulfill in order to become a volunteer. One of the basic requirements worth mentioning here is that “Native Chinese speakers should be able to communicate in foreign language(s), and applicants whose first language is not Chinese should be able to engage in conversation in Chinese”, (source: General Policy for Volunteers).
So brush up on those language skills of yours and good luck with your application!
