Let Avis have it
I try to use public transport as often as possible, when I travel within a country. Yes, it can be a pain to figure out the timetables, etc, particularly if you don’t speak the local language. I find, however, that the advantages of using public transport often far outweigh the disadvantages. I’m less likely to get stuck in traffic queues, I don’t have to worry about parking, insurance, petrol prices and local road laws, but more importantly I get to chat with fellow passengers, local as well as foreign.
Occasionally, though, using public transport is not a practical option, and I have resorted to renting a car, as was the case on our trips to Curaçao and Crete.
Anyone, who has ever rented a car while on holiday, will know that it can be quite stressful to deal with car rental companies. Some companies offer appalling cars, some charge ridiculous rates and then there are the companies that just wouldn’t know customer service if it slapped them in the face.
Often those companies get away with it too, because many of us do not want to spend our holiday making a complaint and often don’t have the time to do so, when we get home from our holiday.
The car rental company Avis UK, however, has taken the seemingly brave decision to launch its We Try Harder blog, on which the company encourages its customers to share their experiences and provide Avis with feedback - in other words let Avis have it!
I write “seemingly brave”, because I don’t know, if comments left on the blog need to be approved before they are published - I would imagine so. Nevertheless, I did find a few comments from disgruntled customers on the blog, so if you’re having no luck with their customer service line, try your luck on their blog.
Personally, I was not impressed by the Avis branch on Curaçao and ended up cancelling my booking and going elsewhere. I never did complain, because I took my money elsewhere, but maybe I should leave Avis a couple of friendly suggestions on their blog.
