Show your Love with a Rakhi

28 August, 2007 by Anni Poulsen

I’ve been so busy today that I almost forgot that the Raksha Bandhan celebrations took place today.

Raksha Bandhan is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the love between brothers and sisters. During the festival it is tradition for sisters to tie a rakhi (a bracelet) around the wrist of their brothers.

I don’t have any brothers, nor am I Hindu, so I haven’t offended anyone majorly by almost forgetting that the festival took place today. But I can’t think of a better reason to have a festival, so why not show your love with a rakhi?

If you don’t have any brothers, it is perfectly acceptable to tie a rakhi around the wrist of a friend. Should you need a little help with making your rakhi, you can find some help on the Hindu Mommy blog
