Look for deals on World Tourism Day

5 September, 2007 by Anni Poulsen

Free entry to Sevilla’s Alcázar, Cathedral and Giralda is what I got out of last year’s World Tourism Day.

The annual event is celebrated worldwide on 27 September and it is worth looking out for free entries and special deals wherever you may be travelling on the day.

“Tourism opens doors for women” is the theme for this year’s World Tourism Day, which is held to create awareness of the importance of tourism and organised by United Nations’ World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

While Sri Lanka will host a one-day conference for UNWTO on the day, events celebrating the World Tourism Day are likely to take place all over the world. Sadly the only event the UNWTO website has listed at the moment is a photo competition, so travellers will need to check themselves if events will take place at their destination.

Like I mentioned above, though, I did save a few euros in Sevilla last year, so take advantage of the day, abroad or at home, and find your World Tourism Day deal on 27 September.
