TucTucs hitting the streets of London?
Motorised rickshaws, aka TucTucs or tuk-tuks may soon be hitting the streets of London, according to the new e-zine, Vacationer.
The company TucTuc Ltd plans to introduce 30 TucTucs in London, if they obtain permission to operate.
The first TucTucs to operate in England were introduced in Brighton as a bus service in 2006 and relaunched as a dial-and-ride service this past summer. Initially the Brighton service was announced as being operational all year round, however the TucTucs website currently carries a note announcing the service as closed for 2007.
The TucTucs run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) making them an environmentally friendly alternative to taxis. However, concerns over safety have been voiced in connection with the service in Brighton.
According to the website TucTuc Ltd plans to start TucTucs services in many other cities throughout Europe as well as in Tokyo and a few US cities. So who knows a TucTuc could be coming to a city near you.
