Chinese New Year in London
The Chinese New Year begins on Thursday, 7 February this year, and I have great plans to improve on last year’s celebrations.
It’ll be with a different set of people this year though, as I’ll be in Denmark and we’ll be cheating a bit by not starting the celebrations until 9 February.
The Chinese New Year festival in London will also be a bit late in celebrating the year of the rat. While the Chinese lanterns at Oxford Circus will be lit on 6 February, the annual festival and parade will take place on Sunday 10 February.
As usual the festival will kick off with the parade at 11, and the party will continue with dragon and lion dances in Trafalgar Square, fireworks in Leicester Square and stalls, decorations and lion dance in Chinatown.
If you’re in London and plan to take part, you can find more information on the Mayor of London website.
For anyone interested in knowing what the year of the rat might bring you, the Hong Kong Tourism Board’s website has a fun “check out your fortune” wheel.
