Professional Travel Videos Online to inspire travellers

You’ll find no shortage of travel videos online, but few are as professionally made as the videos made available by the recently launched Video Passports.

The travel videos currently featured at Video Passport consist of stock footage of popular destinations originally pieced together for cruise passengers to serve as a preview of their ports-of-call.

I tested the site on a wireless connection at 54Mbps, which made the videos a bit choppy, but they still managed to induce the distant look that makes my partner hide our credit card - despite their slightly cheesy come-buy-me voice-overs.

All videos available at the moment are by Video Passports, but the service does allow user-submitted videos and it’ll be interesting to see the quality of the videos once users start uploading.

If you fancy submitting a video of your latest trip, you might want to pay special attention to paragraph 6c of their terms of service, which spells out the rights of use of the videos submitted by users.

Registered users can add videos to their Wishlist or Trip Planner - a Flash-based drag-and-drop list of very limited use in my humble opinion. You can also mark a video as a “been there” destination, which adds the destination to your VP Page. I’m not certain of the point of this feature, other than perhaps massaging your travel ego, as it wasn’t clear who would be able to see your VP Page and more importantly I didn’t see any way of communicating with other VP users, so you could provide “been there” advice.

I didn’t find Video Passports to be the engaging “one-stop-shop” its co-founders Devon Ericson & Eric Nelson promised it would be in their launch press release, but it does provide a wide selection of professional travel videos of popular destinations suitable for travellers researching their next travel destination.
