Get your skates on for the Goodwood Roller Marathon

15 April, 2008 by Anni Poulsen

If you’re planning a trip to England in August 2008, bring your skates for a chance to race around the Goodwood Motor Circuit now mainly famous for The Goodwood Revival, a historic motor race meeting.

The Goodwood Roller Marathon is an annual charity race around the historic circuit close to Chichester, West Sussex. This year’s marathon will take place on 10 August and the organiser Camberley Skaters has already opened for registration.

The marathon is open for skaters on all types of skates as well as skateboards and longboards and you can choose to register for one of four races:

  • Mega – 26 laps, 101.26 km (62.92 miles)
  • Full – 11 laps, 42.84 km (26.62 miles)
  • Midi – 5 laps, 19.47 km (12.10 miles)
  • Mini – 2 laps, 7.74 km (4.84 miles).

Your laps will be timed via microchip and you’ll receive a medal for your effort.

Sponsorship is not required, but the organiser encourages skaters to get sponsored to help beat the £3,496.50 raised at last year’s marathon. The money raised will go to UK charity The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).

You can register for the marathon on The Goodwood Roller Marathon website, where you’ll also find the registration fees. The last day to register online is 7 August.

As with everything else make sure you read the terms and conditions before you register.

If you’re a little shaky on your skates like me, then you can still come watch the marathon. It sounds like it should be a fun day out and spectators get in free.

My pleasure Dan. I’m hopeless on skates, but hope to make it to the event as a spectator. Best of luck with it all!
