EU’s Blacklist of Banned Airlines Updated

24 July, 2008 by Anni Poulsen

It can be hit and miss to find a good airline. However when it comes to safety, the list of airlines banned from flying into EU can be a good place to start, before you book a ticket with an airline you’ve never heard of before.

The European Commission’s Blacklist of Banned Airlines, which lists all airlines that are currently banned from flying into the countries of EU, was updated today for the eight time. Antonio Tajani, Commission Vice-President in charge of transport said:

“This is another important step in the continuous Commission’s effort to enhance civil aviation safety, in the interest of all passengers. The Commission will pursue its cooperation and support to States, their civil aviation authorities and their airlines to ensure that the internationally agreed air safety standards are properly implemented.” (source: europa.eu)

While the airlines on the blacklist are banned from flying into EU countries, they are not necessarily banned in other countries. So if you’re in a foreign country outside the EU, I’d strongly recommend you check the list before you buy an airline ticket.
