18 people killed during Kite Festival

I am very sad to have learned that 18 people were killed and more than 100 injured during last weekend’s Basant Festival in Pakistan, according to Pakistan Observer.

The Basant Festival, which ran from 24-25 February, is famous for its kite flying, but also notorious for the number of deaths and injuries, it causes.

As I mentioned yesterday, I’ll be celebrating the Chinese Spring Festival this Saturday, but when it comes to spring festivals, Pakistan is in a league of its own.

Pakistan’s annual Jashan-e-Baharan is celebrated for an entire month!

Kite ban lifted in Pakistan

A two year kite ban has been lifted in Lahore, Pakistan in time for the Basant festival.

The Basant festival, which will run from 24-25 February this year, is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the Lahore celebration is famous for its tradition of kite flying and battles.
