Sweltering South Downs Way Walks

South Downs Way fingerpostWalking the South Downs Way in the hottest month of the year is not the best idea I have ever had. But I have had plans to walk the South Downs Way for 4 years now, so it was with a now-or-never frame of mind that I took the first steps of the 159 km journey last weekend.

Dodging Bruno The Bear in the Austrian Alps

AustriaWatching the bubbles in my St. Johann beer gently rise to the surface, the flooded line of our train journey between Munich and Salzburg the night before was long forgotten. I was feeling confident that all 6 of us would make it to the end of our hiking trip without major incidents.

Gaudí Giddy in Springtime Barcelona

Crete after the crowds have left

CreteI visited Crete at the end of the tourist season, when there was finally room for the local man and his donkey. Crete was a last minute decision towards the end of 2004, when my partner and I found ourselves with 2 weeks off and nowhere to go.
