If you haven’t signed up yet, don’t panic,  you can still register your support on the Earth Hour web site.

If you’re travelling that day, maybe you can help spread the word by asking your fellow travellers to join in too or ask the hotel you’re staying at to join in.

It is all symbolic of course, but if it can serve as a reminder to us all, then why not join in?

NASA has made available two short videos of the moon passing in front of the Earth as seen from their Deep Impact spacecraft 31 million miles away.

“Making a video of Earth from so far away helps the search for other life-bearing planets in the Universe by giving insights into how a distant, Earth-like alien world would appear to us,” said University of Maryland astronomer Michael A’Hearn, principal investigator for the Deep Impact extended mission, called EPOXI.

The videos are indeed very short, only 20 seconds each and the Earth looks like a giant marble more than anything. In the first video (using a red-green-blue filter) you can just about make out Australia, but you get a decent view of Africa just before the moon passes by the Earth. In the second video you get a more detailed view because an infrared-green-blue filter was used.

I have signed up for a few services, though, hung around for a little while, but then lost interest.

But this is about to change. As micro-blogging can be a very handy travelling tool, I’ve made a mid-summer promise to myself that I’ll become a more active micro-blogger. So I thought, I’d start by publishing my current micro-blogging profiles here for anyone who wants to connect.

Update: After almost a month on Plurk, I’ve decided that Plurk is the service for me. Plurk to me equals conversation, whereas Twitter never became more than a push tool. As a consequence I’ve made the decision to delete my Twitter account.

Silverjet employees were made redundant on 13 June according to a message posted by the administrators on the Silverjet domain.

In their latest message the administrators have made available a downloadable PDF-copy of a letter that Silverjet ticket holders may need to present to their credit/debit card issuers in order to get a refund.
